Our social housing team has been tackling the challenge of affordable housing supply in both Scotland and England for more than a decade. Innovative housing solutions have been delivered, involving the private and public sector in robust, best value projects which provide environmentally friendly, mixed community housing with a choice of tenure. We have been at the forefront of delivering these solutions, ahead of the present credit crunch and current political initiatives highlighted the difficulties of housing supply. Our UK wide Urban Regeneration team are specialists in projects which are centered on people in need of affordable housing. Such projects, often of strategic and political importance, are diverse in nature and require a specialist knowledge of public sector law, policy and practice as well as private sector constraints and risk analysis. Our cross-disciplinary approach ensures we can mobilise a range of legal skills and partnering experience to deliver these projects. The team incorporates lawyers specialising in planning, affordable housing, housing management, compulsory purchase order, construction, tax, environmental and employment as well as property development law. We are involved in several flagship UK projects including: the WEHM Coventry regeneration in north-east Coventry where over 3,500 homes will be built over 10 years; the City of Edinburgh Moredun/Hyvots Regeneration, a partnership involving the Scottish Government, the local council, developers, architects and the recipient housing association; and, Parc Craigmillar the regeneration of part of the south east wedge of Edinburgh involving the delivery of approximately 3000 homes, 3 schools and a range of community facilities over the next ten years.
